We Craft Intentional Spaces
Handwerk is an Austin-based studio designing and building custom furniture and custom built-ins for people who want something made exactly for their space—thoughtfully designed, beautifully crafted, built to last.
I'm Yoori—designer, maker, and the person you'll work with from consultation through installation. I work with homeowners directly, not through layers of contractors or subcontractors. Sometimes I'm in the workshop fabricating myself, sometimes I'm working with skilled makers I trust, but you always work with me. What you get is seamless: one person who understands your space, designs the solution, and ensures every detail is executed right.
I don't design furniture—I design around how you live and how you want to feel in your space. The coffee bar that makes your morning routine something you look forward to. The library wall that turns a blank wall into the heart of your home. The closet that finally makes sense for how you actually get dressed. These pieces become part of your daily life, and I take that seriously.
My approach comes from growing up between two cultures that take craft seriously: Korean minimalism taught me that restraint creates richness, and German precision taught me that quality means building things to last generations, not years. You won't see "Korean" or "German" style in my work—you'll see thoughtful proportions, honest materials, and designs that feel intentional rather than trendy.
Every project is custom to your space and your life. We'll refine it together until it feels exactly right, and then my team will build it to exact specifications. Quality without compromise—just one well-designed, beautifully made piece that you'll be glad you invested in every time you use it.

Every project we design is custom to you—not a repeat of something we’ve done before. While I have a design perspective rooted in modern, clean-lined aesthetics with warmth (influenced by my Korean-German background), we’re not here to impose a specific "look" on your home. During our consultation, I'll ask about spaces and materials you're drawn to, and I'll design something that feels like a natural extension of your taste and how you live. The goal is for the finished piece to feel like it's always belonged in your home, authentically yours—not like you hired someone who stamped their signature style onto your space.

Timeline varies based on project complexity and our current schedule, but most projects move through design, fabrication, and installation within 10 weeks total. The design phase typically takes 2-4 weeks as we refine details together, fabrication takes 3-5 weeks, and installation is usually 2-5 days. We'll give you a specific timeline during our consultation based on your project scope and when you're hoping to have it completed. You'll receive regular updates throughout, so you always know where we are in the process.
-
Projects typically range from $12,000 to $30,000 depending on size, materials, and complexity. A coffee bar or small closet system might start around $12,000, while a floor-to-ceiling library wall or kitchen extension falls in the $18,000-$30,000 range. After our free consultation, we'll provide a binding price range based on your specific project so you know what to expect before we move forward with design. The investment reflects quality materials, custom design tailored to your exact space, and craftsmanship that's built to last decades—not something you'll need to replace in a few years.
-
This is completely normal, and it's one of the most common concerns I hear. My role is to guide you through decisions without pressure—I'll show you options, explain what works well and why, and help you trust your instincts. We refine the design together until it feels exactly right, and nothing moves forward until you're confident and excited about it. I'm also intentional about designing for permanence, not trends, so the choices we make together are grounded in timeless principles (proportion, material quality, functionality) rather than what's popular right now. You won't look back in five years and regret this.
-
Both! We specialize on full design and installation service for custom built-ins. This means that we do the design for and with you, which is deeply rooted in knowledge of materials, finishes and what it actually takes to execute and install a durable and beautiful piece of furniture or built-in.

Absolutely, this is actually our specialty. We work with clients who have a vision and a full Pinterest board but need some help to translate that into their physical space. Most clients come to us with a general sense of what they need ("I want built-ins around this window" or "This kitchen corner feels wasted") but aren't sure about the details. That's exactly what we are here for. During our consultation, I'll ask questions about how you use the space, what's not working, and what you're drawn to aesthetically. Together, we'll figure out what makes sense functionally and what feels right visually. You just need to know your space could work better, and we'll figure out the rest.

Client Reviews
I needed help with designing something that was both functional and beautiful. She designed and built everything- storage bench, custom fabric cushion, drawers to hide baby stuff, and shelves. Yoori hit it out the park and I would highly recommend her for any custom projects
— Camilla JYoori is an inspired and inventive designer who is completely dedicated to the process of art creation. On a recent project I commissioned her for, she took the time to interview and consult me multiple times to ensure that she accurately captured the vision that I had. She expertly balanced her own ideas and imagination against my own, suggesting improvements that I would otherwise have not considered, all the while keeping the larger concept in perspective. I highly recommend commissioning Yoori for your next project - her care and attention to detail are second to none
— Steve DYoori has been a DREAM to work with. So patient and responsive and talented! We had a crazy idea to build this shoe rack and had never seen anything like it and Yoori nailed it!! She took every detail into account and was super patient while I figured out what stain and what wood grain we wanted (as someone who has never designed a piece of furniture or worked with wood before!)
